Strategic Federal “Sourcing”

DOD, DHS and VA could dramatically cut contracting costs by leveraging their broad buying power through “strategic sourcing,” according to a new GAO report requested by the Senate’s and House’s respective committees on government affairs and government reform. Instead of leveraging buying power to their advantage, the GAO said, the three agencies, along with the Department of Energy, acted more like uncoordinated, smaller entities, leading to separate contracts for items used across agencies, with prices varying wildly.
