Pentagon Furloughs

“The Pentagon could begin furloughing civilian employees one day a week starting in mid-April if sequestration took effect on its new March 1 deadline,” Politico reports. … A Pentagon spokeswoman, asked to confirm the account, acknowledged that officials have been preparing for sequester under the instructions of Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, but said no final decisions have been made.” ARMY FREEZE Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno says the Army is immediately freezing all civilian hiring and considering terminating temporary employees and curtailing training that’s not mission critical. “The situation is serious,” Odierno said at an AUSA breakfast on Thursday. “We must take action now to slow the spending.” More details to be announced in the next week, he said.
