Nita Lowey’s Moment

When Rep. Nita Lowey of NY was picked as the top Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee it was a long time in coming. The veteran politician, now 75, who is the first woman to hold the ranking member position on the committee, bowed out of the New York Senate race in 1999 to allow a newcomer named Hillary to have her shot.
