Law Of Unintended Consequences… This Time Plastic Bag Bans

Everyone knows that reusable shopping bags are an unalloyed good – or are they? Bloomberg’s Ramesh Ponnuru unearths some surprising facts: “Researchers who examined reusable bags in 2011 found that 51% contained coliform bacteria. Although washing the bags rids them of 99.9% of the bacteria, a full 97% of people who use reusable bags don’t ever wash them.”  Here’s another idea…use plastic bags and recycle them.
