Truman to the Persian Gulf region — effectively cutting the U.S. carrier presence there from two to one. Pentagon Press Secretary George Little explained, “The United States will continue to maintain a robust military presence in the CENTCOM region, including the current carrier presence and a mix of other assets.” … Members of Congress are fuming. “Rep. Randy Forbes, chairman of HASC’s Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, said in a statement to Morning D, “These massive defense cuts are leaving the Navy without the capabilities to do the missions our military Combatant Commanders are requesting around the globe.”
