Immigration Reform Could Actually Get Done

Obama is pressuring lawmakers to complete work on immigration next year—and making progress quickly is actually doable, as National Journal’s Fawn Johnson reports. Under the administration’s vision, “he is simply picking up the conversation where it left off in 2007, when a massive immigration bill died on the Senate floor,” she writes. The outline for an immigration deal is already there, there’s a nascent coalition that could get behind it, and the president’s advocacy could help get Congress moving.
