Sen. Jeff Flake, R-AZ, took to Facebook Monday and wrote that his recent “no” vote on the failed Manchin-Toomey background check measure was likely the reason for some recent bad polling numbers that showed him at a dismal 32% approval, The Hill reports. “Nothing like waking up to a poll saying you’re the nation’s least popular senator,” wrote Flake, who added that in light of Congress’s generally bad ratings, “that probably puts me somewhere just below pond scum.” Flake nonetheless said he attributed the poor numbers to his vote against the “popular” amendment. GUN COUNTER-POINT NJ writes, “How fascinating that an entire storyline — that senators who voted against Manchin-Toomey are losing support — is being driven entirely by one polling firm, Dem-leaning Public Policy Polling, and their clients. And the rest of the media is picking it up; witness the myriad stories on Kelly Ayotte’s town hall meetings, and the fact that outlets actually sent reporters to New Hampshire to watch.”
