Defense Bill Expected On Floor Next Week

Conference committee discussions on the defense authorization bill appear to be proceeding smoothly, by many accounts. House Armed Services Vice Chairman Mac Thornberry, R-TX, believes it will be on the floor next week. Conferee Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., described some of the ongoing discussions about the sticking points between the bills, which included language from an amendment on detainees by Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein, D-CA, and an East Coast missile-defense site that was included in the House version of the bill but not the Senate’s.
