Cliff Notes

Thursday late Politico reported that negotiations to resolve the nation’s fiscal crisis came to a virtual standstill as congressional leaders and the White House dug deeper into their partisan positions, from tax hikes to spending cuts. The back-and-forth exchanges underscored how the November election results have failed to clarify how Washington should resolve intractable policy disputes. Thursday early Politico reported, “Behind the scenes, top officials who have been involved in the talks for many months say the contours of a deal – including the size of tax hikes and spending cuts it will likely contain — are starting to take shape.” Whiplash.
