Fire!
Aim!
Ooops!
How often have we seen that? People and organizations shooting first and asking questions later. Unfortunately, when you do that in the business world there a great chance that the bullet ends up in your foot. Know where you want to end up and why before you start. Through the Construct, we make sure that our partner-clients think before first act later.
Some things for you to be thinking about:
* Let’s start with the most basic – Why is your goal important to you?
* How specific can you get in defining the goal?
* Is your goal achievable?
* Is the goal aligned with the true essence of your organization?
* What obstacles do you see standing in the way?
* And, perhaps most importantly, who are the key stakeholders who need to be vested in the process immediately?
You’ll notice this theme of buy-in throughout the construct. The only way to truly successfully integrate the work we’re doing is to have your team speaking the same language from day one.
Goaling flows naturally into the Essence Inventory process – a full review of who you are, and why you matter, as does your audience. We want to know everything about you – your history, your competition, what makes you different.
The Essence Inventory does more than ask about numbers on a page or a goal down the road. We look at the Essence Inventory as sort of a “Super SWOT” – looking at authenticity, culture, and your organization’s true issues. In short, we want to know who you truly are. We also want to know who your clients are? What do you know about what they think? About how they operate? How they make decisions? The context in which they interact with you?
Armed with the information from Goaling and your Essence inventory, together we start to put the strategy together leading to a plan. It’s only after completing Goaling and an Essence Inventory are you ready to move on.
