Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), the state where the Newtown school shootings took place, intends to introduce a bill that will toughen requirements for purchasing ammunition by mandating background checks for people who buy bullets. Background checks currently are only required for those seeking to purchase guns—not ammunition.
